Nature lovers, families, and anyone with a soft spot for birds and bugs are being invited to gather at the church on Wednesday 29th October between 1pm and 4.30pm for a celebration of wildlife, tea, and community spirit.
At 2:30pm, a guest speaker from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) will give a special all-ages talk on protecting local wildlife. The event coincides with the final churchyard survey of the year, a project that’s been running across all four seasons to help identify what’s growing - and living - in the grounds.
The aim is to better understand how to restore the churchyard’s once-thriving glow worm colony, which was among the largest of its kind for the area but has sadly been in decline.
Alongside the talk, there’ll be hands-on activities for children - from making leaf crowns and bark rubbings to crafting nature-inspired art. Volunteers will also be on hand to teach visitors how to build a “dead hedge” beside the newly created pond, plant ox-eye daisy plugs, and scatter wildflower seeds to encourage biodiversity.
Visitors can also check on the hedgehog houses installed earlier in the year and top up the bird feeders before enjoying free tea and cake in the church rooms.
Organisers say the event is open to everyone - even those who can only pop in for a short while.
